#1 New Tricks
Take this time to not only keep your pet busy, but teach them a few new tricks, as well! For your pup, you can start off with the basics like sit, lay down, and shake. These are generally easy to teach but require some repetitiveness to make sure that they stick. If your pup already knows these, you can move on to more advanced tricks. For cats, they can be more stubborn when it comes to learning new things, but you can take this time to train them with treats or teach them how to fetch with their toys. Teaching your pet new tricks and new ways to play will keep you both entertained for hours.
#2 Interactive Toys
If you have things that you need to get done but can tell that your pet needs some attention, there is a wide variety of interactive toys that will keep them busy while you work. For dogs, stores like PetSmart have a wide selection of toys that will keep them entertained. This Treat Puzzle Game will work your pup’s brain and reward them with a treat when they solve the puzzle, and if they’re especially active, the iFetch will throw their ball for them so you don’t have to! For cats, what do they love more than a laser pointer? Just turn on their Laser Toy and you will both be entertained and you won’t have to move the laser around yourself.
#3 Hide Treats
If you have a pup or cat that is particularly curious, you can try hiding treats around the house in places that they can easily reach. Hide dog treats in their toy basket or in their bed, and if you have a cat tree, you can hide treats there for them to find. This will be a game of hide and seek and they will enjoy the nice surprise when they find it! You’ll want to avoid putting the treats in places your pet isn’t supposed to go, like the kitchen counter, so you don’t reinforce bad behavior. Hiding treats will give your pet something to do while you get other tasks accomplished.
